Hi guys

I have 13 T's currently and am thinking about getting a pokie......

Is there a specific one more suitable to beginners in the species or doesn't it really matter ??

I have a P irminia, but he/she is very shy, the only time I get a peek is when I desperately try to prevent an escape during feedings...., I swear, greased lighting is slow compared to this guy !!

Why I am asking, I've picked up from some posts I've searched that Avics are kinda difficult to raise, seems like they are very sensitive, and I prefer getting small slings and growing them. Any such problems with Pokies ??

Also, which would you guys suggest ?? Apart from P. metallica, a bit above my pay grade........ lol

Thanks

Got my first pokie 2 weeks back, Poecilotheria regalis, got him at about 2cm and he is doing well. speed is crazy but other than that he is chilled. eating well and quite active. So far for this being my first pokie, the experience has been quite pleasant.

Good starting pokies is P regalis, P ornata and P fasciata. I say this because their price tags are not to high. They also grow to be the bigger of all the pokies.

But if the price is not an issue, get any of them, they are all very similar in care if you ask me, one exception is the subfusca, simply cause mine is the more "sissy" pokies out of the lot, but also not a big change.

I have most of the species and I enjoy every single one. Do share what u will be getting first and welcome to the wonderful world of the pokies. They are awesome T's

I would go for a Poecilotheria fasciata (Sri Lankan Ornamental) very cool tarantula. Its fast, grows nicely always out and about and eats alot. And most importantly very afforable.

But then again these are also as good to get:

Poecilotheria regalis (Indian Ornamental)
Poecilotheria striata (Mysore Orange Legged Ornamental)

P.ornata may be reasonably priced ,but I would not recommend for someone just starting with pokies ,my one always used to be aggressive

I would also agree with what Uncle Charlie and Dimitri said, I got a P.Ornata as a birthday gift this year and it is still a sling, and I am indeed very, very new to the world of T's ( got my first T this year), but I would not exchange my little P. Ornata for anything as it will be one of the the biggest T's in my collection, so for a beginner that is quite extragavant, but at the moment my pokie is still very much in hiding, but they are great eaters and very fast. But as most people would also suggest, do some research and then decide which pokie you would want to get, and if it is indeed the one for you. :spider:
