So I finally got a mature male for my G.Pulchripes!!

Just a question or 2... any help will be much appreciated.

I noticed that leg #8 is missing, which is where the tibial hook should be, so now he has got only one to hook the female with, will this make things more difficult for the mating process?

Also, I got him yesterday, so should I wait for him to make a sperm web before I put them together, or is it not necessary?

You can wait for him to make a new sperm web or you can put them together, and after he/if he can get it right then he will make a new sperm web with freash sperm.

With regards to the missing leg it might be a bit harder to get it right, to lift, pin and bend the femle with only one hooked leg, but if the male does he's job right, the female will be like putty in he's legs.

The only way to find out if he can do it and get it right, is to give it a try and see the out come of the attempt.

I have personally seen a male missing a leg with his tibia hook, and out of 3 males he was the most aggressive out of all the other males to mate.

You could place his enclosure right next to the females enclosure for 1 day and then remove his enclosure to see how he reacts?
Or take some of the females webbing and place it inside his enclosure to see if this encourages him to make a sperm web.
The other technique I tried once is to get a thin art paint brush, and lightly touch the males Chelicerae and pedipalp area, and the same with the female and end back with the male. Some say this helps "informally to let the male and female know that there is an opposite sex available"

This is my 2 cents. Wishing you the best and looking out for your breeding report :)

@ Cascade and Iclazion

just thought I'd give you some feedback.

I put them together this weekend, twice... everything was perfect, no hassles, no struggling, no agression.

I think both times was successful insertions, or shal i rather say i HOPE it was!!!

Do you think I should put them together again?

Awesome, well done!!

Your male would have only had "one" successful insertion, unless he had a chance to reload he's pedipulpers after the first mating attempt.

So maybe wait for the male to make a sperm web then give it another go.
