Would be cool to get a detailed explanation now of what exactly we are seeing :) Maybe one you more experienced people can tell us what the pumping of the carapace is and any other interesting explanations.

Thanks for the comments. This is an awesome achievement for our little website :)

The "pumping of the carapace" is almost certainly due to two things:

1) Rhythmic flexing of the prosomal muscles, mostly leg muscles, in an effort to escape the old exoskeleton.

2) Heart beat. The variations in blood pressure are periodically inflating the prosoma, and this is evidenced by the softer portions' pulsing.

I am still in awe, even in shock, at that video. I'll be watching it a bunch of times, trying to tease out every little nuance and detail that I can.

WOW!

Talk about an eye opener about our little 8-legged buddies!

Think its stressful for the spider? its more stressful for the owner. Have never been so scared to loose a spider
in my life. Esspecially after been told that my spider as been put in a white Merc and driven to the office
to get recorded.

But that you D dawg for making my little Xenesthis famous. :drunk:

My Advice is mostly from my personal experience, but everyone is
