I am starting this in anticipation. Although I have been away from the forum for various reasons, I again feel it conducive to "the hobby" to share what I experience. P metallica will be the next challenge. The reason I will attempt this is purely based on the tolerance of adult females toward males. Even though I have never witnessed mating, my males and females spend months together before the male is removed and introduced to another female. Because I believe P metallica MIGHT cohabitate from third instar into adulthood, this is what I will do next. One of my females produced and egg case last week, 15 of those offspring (if successful) will be kept together "for life"...

I am pretty sure this will be a South African first, so let's see...

So I pulled a sac this eve, 2 December 2012.



My very awesome friend Ruan suggests I grow the spiders into third instar, away from the female. Then, once they molt to third instar, I re introduce a few (like 20) slings into HER enclosure, rather than keep 20 in a communal, away from the female.

I thought this is a great idea, so I'll wait for these little f*cks to grow, then give Mommy a few back.

Oh, before I forget, those who have hernias about my P metallica breeding projects, breed them yourselves before you soil your frilly panties in some misguided jealous teenage rant. Once you have healed your scarred ego, come back to this thread and learn something useful for a change...

Was wondering about this project the other day. Awesome to see it's still ongoing and awesome to see "Scarab" next to a new post again.

PLEASE if it's not too much trouble - keep me in the loop with this one, really keen to see how this project pans out.
