Hi Sorry to hear of your loss.
I have my tanks in a bookshelf and cut wooden planks smaller than the shelves with screws on the bottom as paws in little caps of oil. The only way an ant could get to the tanks is to walk through the oil, havent had a problem since. This was after they attacked my blue fang twice, luckily no harm done.
    Cinnamin also works apparently.
Will take a few pics and post them later today.

    That's real clever.
I would like to see the pics!

Always been one of my favourite species.
Definitely one of the most entertaining T's you can get.

    Enjoy your GBB's!

  • Maxwell replied to the topic 'Devoured by ANTS!' in the forum.

At the moment there's an ant plague going on here!

I definitely need to get some secure shelves in place, as I'm using book shelves at the moment.
Thanks Reinier I will keep that in mind.
I even thought of creating some sort of moat around my enclosure. Or perhaps along the walls on the inside.
I am getting some baby powder tomorrow!

Good news is that the other sling survived and actually molted yesterday. Strange really.

Just thought I'd post this as a warning to everyone:

I recently acquired two C.cyanopubescens slings, and when I checked up on them tonight, one of the
containers was swarmed with ants and I found a few bits and pieces of the T inside.
The other container had about 20 ants in it and there were 2 on the T. It was sitting on a little piece of bark
in the middle trying to isolate itself.
    Luckily I could save it.
It is moving very slowly and weakly and I suspect it might be injured.
    Bloody ants!

Has anyone else had this experience?

  • Maxwell created a new topic ' Are these fleas?' in the forum.

    Hi there guys

Can someone tell me what these are?
I think it's fleas. They were floating in one of my T's water bowl, and I don't think it's a good thing..

  • Maxwell created a new topic ' eaten by a worm!' in the forum.

I recently got 4 P.cambridgei slings and put them in smallish glass jars. 3 days ago i checked on them and it appears that one of them had molted and i expected all of them would molt soon. Today one of them was gone and as I looked for it I noticed I had somehow gotten a superworm that is bigger than the sling in there. it's been living in the container and i couldn't help but suspect it of eating the chevron while it was vulnerable. I also found a chevron leg in the container, but no other sign of it. So just thought i'd post this on here to warn people to be careful not to house big worms with your slings.

  • Maxwell created a new topic L parahybana acting weird in the forum.

    Hello tarantula people

My l parahybana is walking with erratic, struggling leg movements. It looks like he/she can't walk slowly/carefully, the legs move fast and gets lifted up quite high whenever it moves. Sometimes I almost get the idea it's trying to get rid of something that got stuck to it's feer/tarsi, whatever .I am scared that it might have Dyskinetic Syndrome or something.
Maybe it is just because it is in pre-molt. It is currently in pre-molt I think and from some sources I've see certain T's do behave in this way when they are going to molt. This is my first Salmon Pink. It's about 6cm. It's ass is almost entirely beige already.

The temps are normal joburg summer temps. slightly cooler in the room where it's kept than it is outside during the day and slightly hotter than outside during night. It has a large surface-area water bowl and the peatmoss is kept barely moist, almost dry, so i dont know what the humidity is, but im sure it's fine.

I'm sure someone is familiar with this behaviour. Any help appreciated.

I hope it's ok to post this here.

    3. Water buffalo VS American Bison

    4. White Rhino VS Hippo

    5. Creepy Crawly VS Barracuda

    6. J.Lo VS Beyonce

    7. B albopilosum VS G rosea

    8. Swordfish VS a Blue Marlin

    9. Terminator (T-800) VS Predator

    10. Tarantula Hawk VS Theraposa blondi

Sorry, had to get that out.
