360` view, of how i house my spiders. The viewing window in the hide i use a piece of black card with masking tape to close the viewing port so it is dark for the spider. You can buy these cages at lifestyle nursery in the West Pack Shop, They are about 42cm x 28cm ideal for housing adult spiders, R100 each. Apologies for the lack of grammar i am to lazy today.

Id suggest fill up the 50% (half) the cage with substrate. More advise, i would also compact the substrate. Must not be all loose like alot of people do, looks like there poor spider has to ice skate around the cage (Soil to loose).

Give her a hide, and take out the tree in the cage and provide her/him with a water dish.

    Enjoy :-)

    Hi all,

Been really long since i was last on the forum after having to sell my 110 tarantula collection. Now that i own my own house i can start my collection again but on a way smaller scale and maybe start breeding again.

Man have i missed my spiders for more than one year, so i went spider hunting, and thought i would start my collection off with this bad girl :spider:

I bought a female chilobrachys dyscolus blue (Vietnam Blue) Her name is Ares (Greek god of war) cause these are mean spiders, when they get older. :swaet:

Pretty sure this forum has changed allot since last time. But good to be back.

With tarantulas the number one rule to keep all your spiders happy is the KISS rule KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. We often try to control the spiders or think what we would like the spider to do or how we think it should be behaving and when it does not do what you have read online or what we think it should be doing we go OH no its dying then we get all complicated and mess around with heat and humidity and other stuff.... and you end up killing your pet. RELAX spiders are incredibly tough and adaptable animals.

Tarantulas are probably the easiest animal to keep in captivity. I have kept over 120 tarantulas at any one time. Guess what i keep them all the same and i have only had one death in 7 years was a bad molt.. Yes your cage set up might be a little different between the arboreal and terrestrials and burrowing species. But the care is all the same.

IF you follow this i guarantee that you be fine. KISS. Leave your spider alone, if it wants to hide 99% of the time let it hide. I have had some spiders that i saw maybe once a month every spider has its own personality.

Relax and enjoy the hobby its very rewarding.. :-)

  • Darren replied to the topic 'Wanna know if vagans is mature' in the forum.

Why do you want to breed a B.vagans? waist of time in my opinion, in South Africa that is.
    1) They been way over bred.
    2) No one is going to buy them.
    3) If you do sell you will be LUCKY to get R5 a sling maybe even R2 even for free people don't want.
    4) In the light of the above you going to have 500-1000 slings. Are you going to keep them all when no one buys?

Sorry to p!ss on your parade but these are the things you have to think about when breeding.

Yeah should be fine, you can actually breed spiders at a younger age than most people would assume. Give it a shot and see what happens.

    1) Mexican red knee (sling) = Brachypelma smithi SLOW GROWER
    2) Brazilian Black and white (Sling) = Acanthoscurria brocklehursti FAST GROWER
    3) Curly hair (Sub Adult) = Brachypelma albopilosum SLOW GROWER
    4) Red Rump (Sling) = Brachypelma vagans MEDIUM GROWER
    5) Choco gold knee (Sling) = Grammostola pulchripes VERY SLOW GROWER

Spiders grown pretty slow, which is hard for a newbie to get used to but once you realize this it takes away a bit of stress, there are a few factors that make spider molt, food, species have different growth rates and temperature, humidity is very debatable....

Just be patient they will molt when they are ready to grow.

Spiders need hardly any care. LESS IS SOMETIMES MORE!!

Just wait until spring and summer they will all molt. Spiders in winter kinda go into a hibernation mode, eat less, move less and shed less.

    Just relax and chill. :-)
