Hey guys

We want to start a colony of crickets for our tarantulas, and want to know a couple of things.. We have dubia roaches but they grow to slowly and to be honest, I seriously do not like touching any type of roach myself:blush: ...

:huh: So question time..:huh:

1. What is the pro's and cons for a cricket colony?
2. How many do you need to start with?
3. How do you prepare the layout?
4. How much ventilation?
5. Heat?
6. What food would be best for breeding?
7. How long for then to 'drop'?
8. How long does it take for pinheads to develope?
9. How long from pin heads to adult?
10. If you clean every week, would they stink?
11. Any type of substrate?
12. Water or water crystals?

I have tried plenty of times with crickets and have had minimal success with them eventually dying out. Turkistan roaches are better in my opinion as they breed and grow fast. And roaches are healthier.

I agree i have a colony of forest roaches (Blatta Lateralis) They breed faster than the dubia they are cleaner than crickets they dont smell, and dont die off so fast.
They are also a better source of protein for the T's. They also dont burrow like the dubia's!
