For those that can't open the link, it basically says you'll need a permit to keep/breed/sell etc. alien tarantulas and if you don't have a permit, they'll FUBAR you.

I think we all knew this was coming.

I doubt they'll get it sanctioned. if they do, they'll have to loosen their grip on the permits. cos if you need a permit for locals and foreign, then you might as well get a permit requirement for dogs too.

Doesn't affect tarantulas, so I am not worried.

No person may, without a permit-
(a) import;
(b) transport;
(c) keep;
(d) breed; or
(e) trade in,
a specimen of an alien animal except an alien animal listed as a pet species in Schedule 3

The list of pet species are:
...a. Alien tarantulas and alien scorpions excluding those listed in terms of section 67(1) of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004
