DKS loss - Sub-adult male P. Metallica

@marius, I only have access to crickets as none of the petshops here sell roaches.
I've used them now for the last 3 or 4 years with no problems.
I only feed every 2nd week though so perhaps the problem is when they are being overfed?

@SK27:
That would certainly make sense in terms of toxin build-up and showing symptoms sooner.

Like I said in PVV's post, I could be wrong. No-one knows. But it makes sense to me.

There are many other benefits to roaches over crickets. How many T's do you have and what size? PM me - I've got plenty excess to get your colony started for free.

I'm not impossible. I'm being improbable.

My collection is still small, only have 13 T's. 5 or 6 at between 7-10cm and the rest are all below 4cm.
I only buy crickets when I need them and then use all and if not throw away the rest.
They are dirty little critters that die for next to no reason. then they lie in the container chomping on the dead guys. Also more regular cleaning of the T's cages might help as there is always the chance it might be undetected mould or left over food rotting.
Perhaps its all down to the keepers ability to look after the feeders and T's themselves as it doesn't seem to be temp, humidity dependant and looks like it occurs even with roach fed T's, but I am by no means an expert.
Only been in the hobby for 4 or 5 years with a 2 year break inbetween.

The only time I've ever had problems with DKS is when I was still feeding crickets :S

sk27 I just think that you've been very lucky up to this point.

But this DKS seems to be more common as of the last couple of weeks, could there be a problem with these batches of crickets coming from the suppliers or supplier?

Perhaps I have been lucky, who knows.
This is what I usually buy, where I live these are the only ones available I'm afraid so short of starting my own roach colony, which to be honest is more work than I would be happy with, the crickets will have to do.
Hopefully nothing goes wrong but it could also just be natural selection, natures way of culling them before they breed thereby making the species as a whole stronger. Other animals die all the time from unknown reasons, its just life I suppose.
