Hi,

it has been brought to my attention that some people are under the assumption that their scorpion is male or female because of what they have been told by someone else.

So here are some tips for quick identifying of sex - hope it helps.

Sexing Parabuthus, Androctonus, Buthotus species:

Males have bulbous pincers
Females have flat pincers

You can use pectine count but this doesn't help if you dont have a number of specimens to compare. Males have longer and larger pectines.

Sexing Emperor Scorpions:
Pectine count is most accurate. Males have longer and bigger pectines than females. If you can compare a few specimens, you will see the difference immediately.

Sexing Hadogenes(most species):
Males have much longer tail segments - usually the tail is way longer than the body as a result, females tail segments are shorter - tail usually shorter than length of body.

Sexing Uroplectes (most species):

Females have stocky bodies. Male have thinner bodies. Males have longer tail segments than females.

Opisthophthalmus species:

Female has stocky body. Male has smaller build. Male has longer tail segments than female. Pincers in some species have flatter and longer pincers.

Male has notch and corresponding tooth on pincer.
