AMAZING Poecilotheria subfusca resque.

Thank you Cerat !!!

I did not want to post this utterly amazing experience under the P subfusca breeding report, it is a world away from the norm.

A lot of the P subfusca eggs have hatched into eggs with legs. A larger number did not hatch, yet I could see the little spider inside the egg "shell". After keeping them close to the heat source in the hope that they might still hatch, I removed them from the heater last night and decided to write them off. Because Ceratogyrus had misfortune with his batch last year, and because he owns the male (Aubz owns the female), I sent a text to inform him that I have given up on them. After a brief discussion, he sent me a link with the following video.

Inspiring to say the least.

I took all the suspect eggs and started to perform the procedure in the above video. I do not have Macro video equipment, but I do have my trusted Celestron digital microscope.

Once I had the egg firmly gripped in a tweezer, I took a needle and punctured the hardened shell just below the fangs. The second the shell is ruptured, the carapace and legs pop out like pop-corn. This is completely amazing to see. Once out of the shell, the legs and fangs start moving immediately. To assist further, I pressed down on the abdomen ever so slightly. This caused the legs to inflate and expand away from the abdomen.

This image shows the spider trapped inside the shell.

This just after I punctured the shell with a needle.

A few seconds later, the legs now moving freely.

It took about 10 minutes per egg, I lost count as to how many I assisted, can be 20+. I have not had this much satisfaction from my breeding efforts in a very long time. This thread will be updated with their progress, as I have kept them separate from the rest....

@Scarab ,that must have been an awesome experience ;) ..

Do you have any idea why the eggs didn't hatch naturally ?

Three reasons Huzi...

Nature, P subfusca and humidity...

I think it got a bit dry on the hammock. Although the suspended cloth was over water and sufficient damp collected on the sides of their tub, the cloth on which they were was to dry.

They have all been moved to damp poo paper and sealed containers next to the heater. Contact with the damp paper should moisten the little egg shells somewhat, hopefully to such an extent that they escape the dry "trap" and survive. We'll see...

PS: In the wise words of the Mother Mary, and the creator of the YouTube video, " Please don't write nothing about naturale selection..."
