Help identify this tarantula was created by DEON PRETORIUS

Hi everyone. I had a youngster coming up to me just as i left the pet shop in Boksburg offering me this tarantula for R120, and apparently, it was mated as well. I did not buy it because it looked like a local species and i definitely do not wanna get in trouble. Do any of you recognize this species?

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like a Harpactira hamiltoni. Probably the most likely baboon spider you will find in Gauteng and definitely illegal to keep or sell.

Thanks Jaco. But now i actually think i should have bought it , maybe just to set it free, or if you come across something like this and buy it, who can you report it to or give it to?

It is a NO NO to let baboon spiders back into the wild if you don't know there exact location where they were found and taken from.

You can contact Nature Conversation or get hold of someone with a permit and hand the spider over to them.

Harpactira Gigas or common baboon... Plz release it asap... Very beautiful... Very illegal... Maybe in a nature conservation area would be best. Good of you to ask though...
