Hey

Just outside our boma in this insect that i have seen every year but only on this tree and during the rainy period. As a ranger its imbarresing not to know what it is but everyone i asked have no clue what it is. As far as i can gater is its a worm from some sort of beetle. Never seem them anywhere else.(Pics not best quality taken with my cell)

Please any info will be great!

Did you maybe get pictures of the bug, once it got hard and got its colors?

Could be a stink bug of sorts?
Not really into bugs, so can't say for sure!

It's Aspidimorpha puncticosta or Dune tortoise beetle and larvae.

They feed on Dune morning glories.

The sheddings from larvae accumulate on the end of the abdomens...

Thanks for the info, very starnge to see this species in Limpopo. I looked them up now and seems to be only found on the coast...

Now having doubts about this species because of the area i found it in. In the book they are found only along the coast but i found them in the lowveld, Hoedspruit, Limpopo.
