a week ago i started a discussion on the use of live plants or artificial plants.
Now its my turn to share with all of you what I prefer using - and what I do use in my enclosures...
This is a list of my preferred plant species, differences and pics:
1: Monstera - [img/]
I have been using these live plants for more than 2 months now and find them working very well with the pink toe enclosures. It handles the webbing very well.
Size - 35cm
Can handle Temp of - 13 to 29 degrees within an enclosure
Handles Humidity - Very Well
Watering - once to twice per week
2: Syngonium - (ganspootplant) [img/]
This is a much more bushy plant, it grows very well in High Humidity.
Size - 33cm
Can Handle temp of - 18 to 30 degrees.
Watering - only once in every while when the soil has dried moderately.
3. Chlorophytum Comosum - Vittatum (Hen met Kuikens)
This is one of the most popular houseplants and it can handle very poor conditions and little care.
Size - 50cm
Can Handle Temp of - 8 to 26 degrees
Maintenance: This plant needs very little maintenance - BUT once a leaf has bent or damaged it can not regrow...it needs to be trimmed down to promote new and fresh growth.
4. Epipremnum aureum "Marble Queen" (Rankvarkoor)
Can Handle webbing very well.
This is a very versatile plant and can be monouvred as you would like it to be.
It can grow up to 50cm in length - but you can roll it up or trim the branches to rather expand sideways.
Can Handle Temp - 14 to 28 degrees
Watering - only when soil has dried a bit.
To maintain a natural and balanced enclosure / habitat ... i make use of Isopods to maintain Plant material I cant reach.
remember I believe live plants help ALOT with your spider's enclosure and the Humidity.
If you do your resaerch well, you will find that there are lots of exciting live plant species that you can enhance your enclosures with.
