With this extreme heat we're experiencing today and with the low humidity (was about 10-12%) I'm afraid my T's can't handle it. Heat is okay, probably around 30 in my room, but it's the humidity that got me thinking.

Now I want to know: how quickly can a low humidity affect tarantulas and is a water bowl in their enclosure enough to keep them hydrated? I did mist most of my T's enclosures today just for extra caution...

Im having the same problem at home. I mist in the morning and when I get home its bone dry in the enclosures.

Im buying some dried moss today and adding it to my enclosures. It keeps the humidity up and makes the enclosure look nice and green.

Water bowls do help a hell of a lot but cant use them for slings. I have done an experiment to see if the gel balls help with humidity and trust me they don't.

It is a bit of a problem but must also say over the years I have never lost a T too heat or lack of humidity.

I suggest misting more often in summer times and maybe consider the moss too as it does hold the water better than substrate.

Keep your windows and door closed in the room, even keep your curtains closed, this will keep your room cool, it should.

A water bowl will help, yes.

Your spider should be fine, but if the heat wave is going to continue and get hotter, then increase the moisture in your tanks.
there is nothing wrong with you doing it just to make extra sure your spider will be fine.

you can even add a big dish of water into your room to increase overall humidity :whistle:
