I just bought my first Mexican Red Knee sling, I have done research but do not know much about them. Does anyone have advice for me? Anything will help.

Nice starter T :laugh: . Get yourself a Tarantula Keepers Guide by Stanley A Schultz. Its the bible for keeping T's and you will find anything you'll ever need to know inside there.

Hi there! they are very easy to keep, do get a TKG, but in the mean while you can keep it on semi dry substrate and mist the sides of the enclosure once a week and itl be fine

B. smithi, aka Mexican redknee tarantulas, are one of the easiest species to keep. As babies and "slings" less than about 4 cm diagonal leg span (DLS) keep them the same as you would any other baby.

From a DLS of about 5 cm and more, keep them as an arid loving species.

Between those two sizes (for about two molts) give them a water dish and gradually allow their container to dry out.

I cannot give you detailed instructions on their care here. It literally took a 380 page book to do so, and the moderators would have a stroke or heart attack, assuming the forum would even be able to handle a posting of that size. Sorry.

Residents of South Africa have no small difficulty obtaining copies of TKG3. If you can't get one through a major bookstore you might try Dimitri . Apparently he's made arrangements to import a bunch.

However, if you have specific questions, I'll be glad to address them.

BTW, female B. smithi are easily capable of living for well over 30 years. You'd better write it into your will!
