I am only two to three months into the hobby and already decided to go roaches.
Crickets are VERY smelly.
Crickets die quickly and easily for no apparent reason.
Instead of throwing away old fruit, we give it to the roaches and it is put to good use.
I have 6 T's and bought 300 dubais a couple of weeks ago and still waiting for them to breed and start building my feeder colony.They also have a strange strong smell when you are very close to the container with your nose.(I tend to peek into the container to see what they are doing trying not to disturb them as then tend to run and hide when they notice I am looking at them)But I must add it is not as heavy smell as the cricket container which only has something like 30 crics in it.
You decide. My T collection will also have future growth.

This thread just begs to ask the question. What roach species is the best and why?

Personally I like the Blatta Lateralis as my first choice. Similar size to the crickets, not as hard as others and pretty docile to the Ts. They also don't eat each other, though the males might have fights if there are too many. They don't dig and hide. And most importantly, the egg pods. Easy to move the roaches with egg trays into another tub and then shake the eggs into deli tubs. As the babies hatch you can collect them extremely easy and their size are perfect for baby Ts.

I did start a Dubia colony 3 weeks ago. Main reason that I wanted a nice big roach to feed to the big Ts, instead of 2 or 3 Blatta Lateralis. Just as the Blatta Lateralis they can't climb or fly so escapees are few (when you drop them :whistle: ) to zero. However they do tend to dig and hide, so make sure they are taken. Not easy to collect babies for baby Ts, but that is why I keep both types. This specie serve the 10cm+ big Ts.

Since I posted the thread I have moved over to roaches that I got from Echodive the man!
I find the roaches not as nasty as the krickets. For one the krickets scare the hell out of me.

Have you guys seen what they look like when they molt or shed or what ever they do? Krickets are the inspiration for all alien and monster movies, I'm sure of it.

Oh and they really stink. :sick:

I think the worst thing about crickets is,if they escape and they start hiding in places and that never ever ending chirping flip that is crazy stuff.

I read that one roach is equal to 3 crickets, you just going to have to search the net for more info
