Hey Dean,

Firstly welcome to tarantulas.co.za hope you enjoy your stay!

Grammostola rosea (Chilean Rose) tend to be slow growing tarantulas and sometimes have a nice fasting period... or it might be in premolt so do not stress it will eat when its ready.

As for the sex a good quality ventral image might help but a close up image of exuvium (molt) would be much accurate.

Try use roaches they sometimes are better.

Give us some pics and we can provide more info! B)

Hey Dean

Like Dimitri has said. G.rosea sometimes go into fasting periods of more than a year. No one really knows why this happens, all we know is that it does. I currently have a G.rosea that is about 3cm's and that is older than a year. It hasnt eaten in 8 months.

About the climbing: Make sure that you have a nice dry place (piece of rock or bark) for your T to sit on. It could be that the substrate is to wet. They prefer it a bit drier.

Good luck and enjoy.

Life is not measured by how many breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
