Evening All

I have not been into pokies for that long, Maybe a year in total so I was stumped after a photo shoot.

I have Mature Male P. ornata Well I thought he was mature until I had 2nd photo shoot with him and was looking through the photos, I then noticed that he still does not have "Boxing gloves" bulbs, so not mature yet.

I thought that pokies are Sexual dimorphism, once they molt into there male colors I thought they would be mature?
Like your Psalmopoeus species

So here are some photos of the male in question.
Size is unknown as I have not measured him yet.

Any one would care to shed some light on this matter?

So these photos wore of he's "maturing molt"

So this is the 2nd molt, which I had thought he was all ready a mature male.

Not mature yet.
You can often tell the difference between male and female a few moults before maturity.
Looking at the size and colouration, I would bet his next moult will be the maturing one.
They often go over the 20cm mark with their maturing moult as males and his colouration will become even more dull. Not the prettiest of males.

Hi

I do agree with all comments on this topic, ceratogyrus is spot on, my P ornata male is huge 22cm after last and maturing molt and yip they sure are not there moms prettiest either but their size makes up for it.

By what size can you successfully, if possible, sex them by their molts?
I also have what appears to be a male according to the duller colouring. My little ones about 12cm.
