So I want to add to my collection, but not sure what to get next, but what I do know is the following as i grow my collection I want to keep it 50/50. by that I mean as I have currently the same amount of old world tarantulas and new world tarantulas.

But I am stuck, as I don't know what I should add next to my collection and if it should be old world or new world, though I will admit I like my old world tarantulas more than the new world tarantulas, but I would like to have the balance I currently do have in my collection.

There are two species I know I don't want in my collection and that would be the metallicas and the green bottle blues.

Why, well firstly from the moment I have joined the forum I have seen to many people make a fuss regarding these two species and put me off a bit, I won't deny they are a two beautiful species, but no thank you, I don't want them in my collection.

So ladies and gents please give me any suggestions you do have, and keep in mind these are the four I already do have, a curly, a chilean rose, a feather leg baboon and a fringed ornamental. So far two species was suggest to me, which was the asian fawn and avic.

The Asian fawn is like having an Asian obt lol, love the one I have. Terrestrial, and opportunistic burrower(old world). New world, I would say thrixopelma ockerti nice colours and walk with their abdomens/butts in the air(semi arboreal/new world).

Also a nice Tarantula old world terrestrial/burrower, Hysterocrates gigas/Cameroon red. The only tarantula I know of that can swim,catch fish and are also communal. I have a communal of 5 so far.

Avic and C. Huahini are nice T's.

And I suppose it would be easy to suggest another pokie.

But lest think outside the box. For old world's get something striking, look at a singapore blue. Or my personal favourite Monocentropus Balfouri.

As for new world's. Now bear in mind that I am no NW specialist. But here are 2 I would go for if I wasn't allergic to hairs. Thrixopelma ockertii and the monster A. Geniculata.

Haplopelma Lividum/ cobalt blue - beautiful don't see it much old world aggressive

Phormictopes cancerides / Haitian brown - terrestrial aggressive sometimes a red sheen or even purple new world

All the tarantulas I have named so far are in my collection, so there are many choices and many more I have. I just can't recommend out of my collection, since I don't have first hand experience with those.

Hi Vixen, good to hear from you again. Now you already know I like the big terrestrials, so I would second the A.geniculata or in the same group, Nhandu chromatus or Nhandu coloratovillosus. All of these have nice striped legs, are robust big T's and not shy, so good display T's. I especially like the way they feed, they tackle food like rugby players !

Slower growing, but long living T's to consider would have to be the red Mex's - smithi and emilia, you may not like the boehmei, cause it flicks hair at every opportunity. Although they are abundant in the hobby, my big B.vagans has a velvet black body that even my G.pulchra can't beat. You also can't go wrong with any of the big Lasiodora's.

I also love my H.gigas, being old school and often emerging itself in it's large tub, it's a curious T that will come out of it's burrow in slow motion to see if I brought food, if I shine a torch at her burrow at night. Then of course there's the P.muticus (king baboon) or "royalty" as Vanessa calls her's.

The list is endless, but if you're looking at keeping a kind of balance, a red one, a striped one and something bronze like Pamphobeteus sp... would be nice additions. There, now I've just about listed most of my T's hahahaha
