The H lividum I won in the photo comp last year.
Stunning spider. Sitting on the edge of its burrow almost permanently.

That fly reminded me of something i did not know. Sitting outside having a braai i saw a bee flying in the garden, with closer inspection i noticed that this bee is not flying like a bee, it hovered in a different way! With some research i found that this in fact was a fly that mimics the looks of a bee(and man was it similar, my mind honestly treated the insect like a bee), and one way to tell the difference is that bees have four wings, but flies have two wings :)

I think someone posted a larvae(maggot) of one of these flies, they lay their eggs in open water pipes or something.

But about the pictures, lovely quality, almost shocking to think how much detail is actually visible! What macro lens are you using? as well as what camera?

Thanks for the sharing!

If all is not lost, where is it?

Interesting info.
I was surprised at how still the fly was sitting. Allowing me to get very close without flying off. It was pretty big. >1cm body length.

Thanks :)
Took the pictures with a Panasonic FZ-50 and a Raynox DCR250 macro converter with a DIY flash diffuser on the pop-up flash as recommended by Stalker.
