I think that what it comes down to is that most pet shops are still easing into the whole "exotics" thing. As an example a pet shop that opened a few months ago was opened as mainly a marine store. The guy that opened it was really clued up with fish and always really helpful, you could tell it was his passion. But due to demand and supply he started getting in tarantulas, something he knew nothing about.

I'm not saying all pet shops are innocent we all know allot of them take chances but I would have never known that OBT's are illegal if not for this site, I guess what it comes down to is that it's our responsibility as tarantula lovers to do research before buying something and help others that aren't certain.

I once brought a panama blonde that was actually a brazilian giant blonde (not that I minded) but had I done some research I would have seen from the beggining that the panama blonde has a longer slimmer build.

Yeah. That is a big problem. they differ in many ways.
Terrestrial vs. Arboreal (semi). Agro-ness :) Eating habits.

This also illustrates the problem with common names very well.

One of my LPS had an OBT when I started to research tarantulas to get one. I quickly realized (from this site) that the OBT is illegal to keep. Shortly afterwards, the store removed the spider from display. Don't know what happened to it, but it wasn't there anymore.

I once got a T for a birthday present from family. When they gave it to me, they said that it is not what is written on the container. It is something else. They think it was a curly hair. Took a few molts before I agreed. It was much more active than my other B albopilosums :)

Turns out Cerat's friendwas at the pet shop. The pet shop honestly didn't know that they have OBT's. They have since removed the slings.

Thanks. You find any other places that were selling them?

Not yet, but will be on the look-out.

Anyone else that comes across this - try and find out who sold them to the pet shop. And be friendly when you inform the pet shop that they are selling OBT's :)
