Hi there,

Me and my husband recently started with this tarantula's hobby....well actually i did. My first T was a Chilean rose, bought it when it was a sling and it 's not docile towards us...it's about 5cm

In beginning my husband said NO that he will doom the spider and now we have:

Tiger Rump
Fire leg
Red Rump
Cobalt Blue
Antilles Versicolor
Giant White Knee
Curly Hairs

And now he want some more... :P

But my question is why is my Chilean rose so aggressive? He did fuss for a few months and has start eating again...

every time i change his water bowl he comes to me and put himself in attack mode and when we feed him/her it wants to attack the pincher that we are using.

he/she never done this before...so i don't know if i am doing something wrong at this stage..

Welcome to the hobby and the forum.

You not doing anything wrong, it happens from time to time that a spider becomes aggressive and attacks everything that moves.

And sometimes it is the placid species that are the aggressive ones.

Don't worry to much, their bark is bigger that the bite.
Same as with any other animal, it can sense fear and the utilize it.
Just look at a P. Irminia for example, it's fast always have an agro pose.
But never a bite.

Just open the enclosure, pick him or her up without hesitation or shake.
Then you'll see a different act.

Eish, I am still new to the hobby too.

I thought it prudent to check the current demeanor of the T with a gentle prod with a paint brush first before attempting to handle?
