male: mine (matured mid june)

mating:
tried pairing the female with one male on 1 july 2013 and nothing , no mating , male removed and tried a few days later with another male , still nothing

12 july:
left one male with the female

13 july:
male was eaten

female was kept warm and dry about 25+degrees

15 august:
heavily misted the entire container (expecting a molt)

16 august :
female made an egg sac wich i was not expecting

enclosure was misted occasionally

2 september :
offered one small turkistan roach , roach was eaten

9 september :
female ate the sac

im very sad this did not work out as it was my 1st sac , not sure why she ate the sac , did not disturb her much .
anyways il try again

don't feel down or discouraged my friend in nature all parents either kill their offspring or reject them for one simple rule!! people do not understand and its called STRESS!!!!!!

Hence people build mechanical moms because tarantulas ar so sensative to their environment they will eat that sack no problem as its in their nature.

Could it also be because something was wrong with the sac ? I've read somewhere that females will eat the sac if they feel its infertile etc ?

Still have another mature male so will give it another shot ..

It could be so many contributing factors and yes that is an option as tarantulas are amazing with their sensory organs . What can can cause them to eat the sack as follows. Changing or moving the T ESP altitude adjustment causes stress,light temperature high increases her metabolic rate and she will eat it because she is canabalistic by nature, no thermal regulation where she can cool off a bit because they need that too. What was ur humidity in tank bro? So many factors and the reason why guys build mech moms is too prevent this ex act act when mom eats the sack. When I'm in joburg next week we will meet up and u just get a timer and container stacker at plastic land and ill help u build a mechanical mom sound and u never have to worry again.at most it will cost u R150 as ill donate u the rest of the equipment ok chap so dnt stress ill help u out.
