Genus: Poecilotheria
Species: tigrinawesseli
Date female moulted last: Can't remember.
Date male matured: 2011.
Last mating date: Not known, co habitation.
Mating behaviour: Just leave them together for as long as you can.
Tank conditions and temperatures before mating: The enclosure is kept above twenty degrees, with no water bowl. (I never use one anyway). The enclosure is allowed to dry out somewhat. Food is provided once a week.
Tank conditions and temperatures after mating: Mating was never witnessed. The enclosure was moved close to a heat source during April 2012. I started watering the enclosure twice a week, but no "flooding". I like the idea of "heavy rain" rather than a deluge that leaves the substrate swampy.
Feeding schedule after mating: They are fed once a week with a hand full of crickets.
Date egg sac produced: 2 June 2012.
Date egg sac removed: 16 June 2012.
Development time of nymphs: Unknown.
Total number of spiderlings: 78
Additional notes: The female did not show tell tale signs that would indicate her intentions. Sitting about as if nothing is imminent, then produced an egg case. The male lived with the female for weeks, there seem to be no threat to the male.
First mating attempt failed because I wanted them to mate in the traditional fashion, then remove him. Because I have many mature males, I decided to leave him with her, only to find him still alive the next day. He was removed just before the female was moved to the heating panel.
The female with her egg case. The egg case a bit obscured.
When the egg case was opened on 16 June, no eggs with legs were visible, the eggs looked in good condition.
On Monday 18 June I decided to remove them from the egg case because some eggs have hatched. The rest will hatch in a hammock.
