Surely there are t's that in there natural habitats live in, on or around sand. So why are we not keeping these species in a setup with sand as a substrate?

Please let me know and post pics if there any of you have in fact got sand setups.

I was thinking of keeping a G. rosea in a vertically orientated tank filled with a fine sand. The plan would be to keep the surface dry apart from a light misting once in a while. As the T would still need humidity for when it molts I would try to make a "delivery" system to add a small quantity of water to the base of the tank in order to mimic what I assume to be the way of nature in that the deeper the T burrows the cooler and more humid it would become.

As always I eagerly await your views.

@ frank: I'd rather steer away from sand. A grain ingested may block the digestive system of your tarantula. Sand can also get stuck in the book lungs. In both instances your tarantula can die. ;)

San also compacts easily and this can cause possible molt.

Is it not true that only minute particles such as liquid can actually pass through the tarantulas "teeth" or oral cavity?
