I've been keeping Ts for over 4 years now and have not once used vermiculite at all, I use 100% coco peat for all my Ts and have never had a problem :)

In one of my enclosures I used premixed bags of vermiculate and coco peat, the ratio is 1:5 though. Yes the humidity is MUCH higher but it also gives quite an unnatural look to the tank.

@Curt and Lumpzor

I totaly agree with you on the coco peat it is fantstic and it looks great in the tank and i'm not saying anybody should change to vermiculite at all, i'm pretty new to this and I have read alot about T's and I have read that vermiculite creates better humidity that is close enough to their own habitat's. Just want to get other keepers opinion on this, also i can get this very cheap so i want to make sure it would be a good option for my T's

For interest sake Lumpzor, how much do you pay for the coco peat and how much do you normally use?

Well for the first few bags I paid R30 a bag and it took about 5 to full 2 tanks.

After that I got a peat brick from Echodive which was enough for 3 tanks with a bit to spare, and they apparently go for roughly R20.

I mix vermiculite into my peat, I only mix it 1:5 just for that little extra humidity. With the heat here my tanks dry out too fast but since I've been mixing the vermiculite in it's much better.

I know this is probably a silly question but what is the difference between Palm peat & coco peat, all I can ever find for sale is palm peat.
