Due to space limitations I decided to place my hissers and forrests in one tub.

While they were seperate the hissers never bred but the forrests produced quite a few eggpods.

In the combined container, I added a heatpad at the start of winter (current avg temp 20*c) and also started feeding them oranges. Now the hissers are spreading lots of love but I have not had a single eggpod from the forrests.

I have noticed one massive cricket lurking around in the tub - could he be the guilty one or could there be some other explanation?

Do you still have male B lateralis with your females?
This could be another reason why you don't have any new ooths?

It is better to keep your roaches separate but if you have to keep roaches together it is better to keep, live bearing together and ooth bearing together.
Some species of roaches can live together and breed like flies.
Where other will eat anything and every thong at the bottom of the container.

When you say you have a lack of space what does that mean? (could you maybe post a picture?)
And how many Hissers and Forest roaches do you have in one tub?


I have a couple of species of roaches living together to see what will happen and if they will keep breeding.

You want to know a possible reason wh your turls aren't producing eggcases.

Possible Reason 1: The hissers are eating the eggcases

Possible Reason 2: The turks are embarassed that they have to lay eggs which can take months to hatch while the hissers give live birth.

Possible Reason 3: The container could be too overcrowed now, and with the size of the hissers, the turks might be scared to lay eggcases in case the hissers crush them.


Possible Reason 4: Something that I can't explain

My hissers will, without fail, eat any aborted ooths in the colony. My guess is the turks' egg cases are being munched.

Yes I have males and females
no overcrowding (only about 15adult Hissers and 40 smaller ones and about 40 forests)
I have a 40l crate/tub with 3/4 covered with heatpad
space is government regulated :eyepoke: (Honey. it's only six spiders not sixteen :angel: )

Originally moved them in together because i noticed the forests stopped breeding as soon as the temps started dropping.

Will try a grid at bottom of crate to keep adult hissers away from ooths.

How many Hissers do you wont at the end of the day?

Have you thought of getting two containers and stacking them on top of each other?
other wise that is a good Idea with the grid at the bottom of the container for know. But later you will have to consider getting two containers, just an example if you have 10 female hissers and they are all gravid and give birth at the same time you are going to be sitting with plus minus 300 hisser, (it does not exactly work like that)

I started off with 10 hissers that wore given to me, I'm sitting with over 40 adults and about 150 nymphs and that is with feeding them off to my spiders.

And the same goes for the Forest roaches once they get going with breeding they will almost double in numbers in a couple of months!

Stacking two 40L containers wont take up to much space, I mean you all ready have one container so it will just go higher.

I use 60 liter containers for my forest and orange spotted roaches.
It only stands 65cm tall!
