Hi guys,

This is my first attempt at sexing a tarantula. So I've been reading up on how to do that, though it would be nice to confirm with you guys

I think my tarantula is a female. Am I correct?

I could take more photos if needed, but I dont have a microlens, so this is the best shot out of the attempts I had sofar.

Hey Sonja its very difficult to see from this photo, I do see that the "old skin" is folded but cant see anything that indicates that this is indeed a female.

Try to straighten out the skin and take a photo of the area between the 1st pair of booklungs, that will be 2 white patches closest to the "head" area of the T

Tx I had a look at his post too. There is a "flap" that is why I think its a female. And it is by the book lungs. If it was a male it would have been smooth right? The "flap" was there before I started flattinging it out and it is still there. I'll try and get better photographs.

Sonja if there is a "flap" then its female. Your right, the area between the booklungs of the male will be smooth.

thank you very much.

I found my digital microscope and mangaged to take more photos. With all my fiddling I tore the body, oh well, I know better for next time.

there's a shiny patch by the flap too if I hit it at the right angle. I'll upload them.

The brachy2 image shows the flap in the botton left. and the brachy3 image shows the flap in the middle with the shiny patch. The shiny patch almost looks like rainbow colors, which is not clear in the image.

will look up in my tarantula keepers guide to find out what it is.
