I always went according to the 1st pic. But doing it like the 2nd makes sense.
Kinda like getting the "diameter" of the T I guess

@ Gemini, I read somewhere that the reason this is the most accurate is because some T's sometimes sit in a "pokie" stance and other times with their legs wider apart for more grip (eg. if sitting sideways). This would make the measuring inacurate, thus by measuring the two diagonally opposing legs this discrepinsy is canceled out. ;)

It boils down to circumference and area people.

Measuring it like the second pic, gets you closer to the actual circumference, and area, than otherwise.

What you need to remember is to compare apples to apples. Try to set a certain measuring standard to avoid confusion.
