Hannes what I'd like to know is how the hell did you snap that bee in the top of the insect category?

Gringo, snapping insects in flight is a shoot-from-the-hip affair. You put the camera on 'continuous shooting' and shoot the crap out of them - hoping something's in the frame, nevermind it being in focus. That banner photo is a crop of this photo. Oh, and it's a hoverfly, not a bee....

I noticed in your setup you were using a standard flash and cardboard. why don't you make use of a macro flash they are start at round R1400 - R5000 on wantitall.co.za

^...those macro flashes don't work so well - they mount on the front of the camera causing the light to come straight from the front which makes the photo's look flat with no shadows. They also cause unnatural looking reflections in the eyes....not that mine looks any better..... :blink:
