If you are looking for a corner logo then a good size is 1600 x 1200.
This is the size of any larger monitor like a 20 inch monitor. What's nice is the admin can scale the size down for the site logo. Users can use the logo as a desktop image or screen saver.

Creating a bigger image can be used for advertising at expos too.

When posting the image for the comp users can post 600 x 450 to save on forum bandwidth. (well get the idea)
