Today I'm scratching my head...
I have a female Palystes SP (Rain Spider)
I caught her and she produced an egg sack before I could mate her with my male.
The slings came out and I released them to the wild. Before I could mate her again my male died of old age. (they go a dark brown just before they die) So without cleaning his tank I placed her into his old tank as it was already set up.

Here's the puzzle... Yesterday I go to feed her and low and behold she has produced another egg sack without being mated again.
Did she have excess stores of sperm from her first mating in the wild?
Did residual sperm in the male's tank somehow find it's way into her spermathecae?
Has anyone experienced this phenomena with T's?

Yes, probably.

No way.

Yes.

It might be a double clutch or a infertile sac!

If you had tried to mate them, she would have eaten him.
From personal experience, Palystes often double and triple clutch. After that they die unfortunately. Unlike female tarantulas they dont moult after their maturing moult.
