What sort of comp are we talking here and who can start it?

I wouldn't mind running a small comp

Why not instead of having the Tarantulas now, put them aside until November when its the Tarantula Auction which I'm sure everyone will attend.

Have a photo comp (no photoshop allowed) for best picture - July
Best housing setup for a tarantula (nothing over say R300 to keep it fair) - August
Best quality and edited photo of a sling (+-1cm) - November

Then give out the prizes at the auction that Legion is willing to put up

It's a good idea... except the auction part. A lot of the people on the forum will be unable to attend it, myself included. So I think what should be done is all the prizes will be at someones house for pick up, and one will be able to pick them up whenever suits them. But I think posting should also be a possibility as some of the members come from KZN etc...

I use to organize some photo competitions on this forum. It was fun and most people enjoyed posting some photos.

Everybody normally entered a photo to win a tarantula. The biggest problem is to find sponsors to provide tarantulas. I was planning a photo competition with prizes like a coffee mug, mouse pad, beer glass and things like that with photos of tarantulas on, but as the site is not very active and there is not much happening a decided not to go on with the competition.

I haven’t had much time to be involved in the Tarantulas site, but would like to give something back for the support I get from the Tarantula site members. Was wondering if you guys didn’t want to run a competition, I will supply the tarantulas as a prize. Maybe a Brachy package, like 1 smithi, 1 auratum, 1 vagans and albopillosum, or something similar. Can also do a birdeater prize for 2nd place like 1 vulpinus(tripepii), 1 brocklehursti, 1 geniculata and 1 parahybana. Can maybe throw in a few extra geniculatas as Consolation Prizes. Let me know what you think.
