Identify Snake was created by Master Bater
Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone could identify this snake. I've known them all my life. I use to play with them as a child. They are small, don't get any bigger than the one in the photos. They are subterranean and seem to be rather blind. In Afrikaans its known as the "sand slangetjie" or "ertslangetjie", but I can't find any info on them. I just want to known more about them. What do they eat? What species are there? What in regions do they occur? General stuff.

Might not be a snake, but more a legless skink?
or a blind snake.

I would suggest to got to Sareptiles.co.za and ask there, you should get a clear answer.

I'd also say some sort of blind snake, they normally eat ants and termites

I would go with what Cas said - blind snake - think it may eat burrowed prey items like earthworms and so on.
if you find out please let me know -

What sways me is the colouring - blind snakes if i remember correctly are brown to black in colour with a funny "snout"

I'll look further into it and see if i can find more!

Cuviers Blind Legless Skink: Typhlosaurus caecus

Here you go: www.sareptiles.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=142&t=5495

Maybe not that exact species but definetly a Legless Skink.

P.S Didn't even need to google that, knew it off the top of my head.

Easiest way to tell that is just to feel the body of the animal, if its a skink you will be able to feel what left of the tibia. That does look like a skink.
