Can you upload a pic of your scorp? I wasn't even aware that you get those in SA.

The dude i bought from was breeding, he stays in witbank. will take pics when i get home.

also, i heard at the exotic pets expo, someone was selling them as emperors. not sure how true that is tho.

h. gigas (4-5cm)
b. albopilosum (3-4cm)
l. parahybana (3-4cm)
P. irminia (8-9cm)

Scorps:

Hey guys.

I was wondering if any of you could help me out.

I bought my first scorp at the SOS expo this year, its a P. transvaalicus 2nd instar. The first week I had it, it ate like a machine. I was feeding it every second day since I knew nothing about it I think I pretty much power fed it. Well since that week of over feeding the little guy hasn't eaten again, that's over 3 months ago. I thought maybe it was going to molt but nothing has happened yet. It just tunneled and sits under ground doing nothing. I make sure I wet the corner of the tank whenever it dries out. Is this period of not eating the average amount of time? I just need some peace of mind.

Thanx.

Be careful of wetting the enclosure too much. I only spray in the corner once, maybe twice a week and mine does fine. What you must remember is that since P. transvaalicus is a local species, they are accostomed to the local weather and seasons and so will act accordingly. For instance, P. cavimanus which comes from the northern hemisphere might be more active during winter here in SA because in the Northern Hemisphere it might be spring or summer and so they are accostomed to the seasonal cycles in their own country, despite what season it is here. They will slow down in winter here but not much compared to local ones. Basically, I wouldn't worry to much about it right now, mine is doing the exact same thing so my advice would be to keep it warm, make sure there isn't too much moisture in the sand, to prevent mycosis (fungal growth caused by excess moisture) and just keep an eye on it. Don't try and feed it at the moment, especially if it looks like it might pop from all the power feeding.
Go to: scorpionforum.darkbb.com for more info. There is a lot of great info, there is always something interesting going on and you just might want to get more scorpions afterwards.
