S.calceatum definately have spermathecae, as do formosa.

You sure S.calceatum has spermathecae?

Unless its a male calceatum, it has spermathecae.
Think you misunderstood that first paragraph of the document you posted.

Oh, did a bit of research on the world spider catalogue found here:
research.amnh.org/iz/spiders/catalog/THERAPHOSIDAE.html

The spider in the article (That is outdated) that you mention that has no spermathecae is Xenodendrophila gabrieli, not S.calceatum or H.maculata.

According to the spider catalogue X.gabrieli was synonymised with Encycrotella olivacea, which is one of the spiders that indeed does not possess spermathecae. :)

So to confirm, yes, calceatums do indeed have spermathecae. ;)

Purely from memory (which is shaky at best), I agree with Cerat. I have sexed both E olivacea and S calceatum. At first, sexing a female E olivacea is a weird experience because of the lack of spermathecae. Only the Uterus exturnus is visible on closer inspection, which off course makes it female. I do not recall the exact shape of S calceatum spermathecae, but it is there. I have close to five hundred exuviae, I will try to find one from S calceatum and see if a picture can be taken.
