Good afternoon all you Pokie experts

I hope you can shed some light for me on a question. It is probaply a silly question, but I do not have that much experience with Pokies!

My boy/girl is roughly 5 cm and the previous owner said they suspect female. I have heard that the dark area in the christmas tree turns lighter if it is a female. My question is when will this happen or from what size will this be more prominent? I know the best way to sex them is through the mold under magnification.

You will only be able to guess the sex of the P metallica in the mentioned way much later on... with each molt the line on the abdomen should get lighter if it is a female. Also do take not that with some pokie species you cant use that method as they dont lose the line.

May I also add that I cant see how this person could suspect it to be female unless a molt was sexed... and if that the case he/she would have needed a microscope to see the spermathecae cause it would have been extremely tiny.

Best way like you said is to wait a couple of molts and then sex the exuvium.

Thank you uncle Charlie

I suspect the seller did see the mold as the only thing they mentioned was that the area appear to have an area sticking out and not smooth like the male normally has. They said it looked like a little dark button and no visible spermathecae. The best way is that I wait for the mold. She/he is in pre-mold at the moment
