Hi All

I decided to keep some hissing roaches. Searched for some info on the internet and found a lot of different descriptions of how to keep them. Some guys recommend heating pads and others don't ext. Is there any one out there thats got a few pointers they want to share. Maybe a few things that you have learned over time that you think a beginner should know.

I have ordered some and they should be arriving in 2 days time, I am just trying to gather some more info before they arrive.

I've found that keeping them in a large plastic container with some cardboard egg containers and a substrate of shaved wood (hamster tipe) works well. For feeding I use carrot and butternut as well as bran. I don't use a heat pad, room temp seems to be ok, they are hardy fellows as to be expected from cockroaches :woohoo: Enjoy them, I guarantee that the will make your friends and family squirm with their hissing noises!

Be warned, they breed like little monsters... my 22 adults have produced about 300 babies, I don't know what to do with them all.

Absolutely NO subtrade unless you want to clean the enclosure daily or if you just got them as pets. Did you get them to be pets or do you want them to breed for feeders.you will struggle for days to change the subtrate when there are babies crawling all over them.
I use a glass 1300mm x 400mm tank with wood lid and huge vents on top of the lid.I use a oil heater next to the tank about 300mm away right throu the year as this help speed up the breeding tempo..

I feed Montego Classic dog pellets and carrots apples mostly but have fed them about any fruit you can think of.

And my, do they eat!!!

I have mine staying with my lobster roaches I use weed bran substrate as I don't need the babies right now.But If you are going to use your babies don't use substrate you will sit for hours.I feed them cheap stuff dog food and any vegetable and even table scraps rice,meat, pumpkin and I use a heating pad for them they breed like rabbits even worse.
