It is possible, but has not been proven "beyond a shadow of doubt".
The advice I was given back in the day. If you have a special spider (species), and you have a male or two available, breed as often as you can to ensure, or at least try to get as many offspring as possible. If you have success, keep a substantial number of the offspring. In effect, you "sacrifice" one mother, but could end up with a number of babies that will ensure future breeding.
This practice has very specific requirements and granted, will not always be possible. If I must follow the breeding practices of a good friend, I would skip a year (season) and breed every alternate year.
