If you compare the climates, they are very similar.
so it could probably survive. Especially if it was CB in SA and used to the humidity differences, but I think being Knysna, it is even more similar to the Brazilian rain forest.

I agree with Cerat, but let's arrange a hypothetical escape of L parahybana from a car traveling from Cape Town to Plet.

As we all know, the town of Knysna lies at sea level while some of the forests lies substantially higher, and inland.

Minimums 18.8C Daytime
Maximums 27.5C Daytime
(Nighttime temperatures of 7C has been recorded in winter, but one would presume such temperatures occur at sea level and not under forest canopy at altitude.)

Brazil lies on the tropics, most of the country between 5 degrees North and about 30 degrees South. It is extremely humid, except for the South East.

Based on the above, I would take a stab and say L parahybana should survive in the Tsitsikamma National Park (and others in the area), provided it is safe from predation.

We vacation in the garden route every year and this past December i was also pondering the possibility that certain tougher new world type tarantulas could easily survive in the knysna forest or the rest of the garden route itself if there weren't predators. Plenty of food all sorts of insects etc.

But there are a lot of monkeys and scorpions. Are scorpions natural predators of tarantulas or just when the occasion arises?

From what I have read, the biggest enemy for tarantulas are baboons.
