Mature (arboreal) spiders jump further, so that comment would be misleading folks starting out in the hobby.

Handle ALL spiders with care, know their defense mechanisms and be prepared to deal with it appropriately. Arboreal spiders in general would prefer flight to fight, hence the jumping. I am yet to see a H minax jump two meters, nor have I seen an Avicularia flash 3 inch fangs...

You are seriously overreacting. Avic's are not bad at all. Probably one of the only spiders that i would feel comfortable with just walking up to and handling, even if i have never seen or handled the spider before.
Trust me, there are tons of spiders that i would recommend not holding before an avic.
I would also love to know what changes when they reach 5 years of age or maturity?
As for being scary, come make a turn at my place and come open any of my P.murinus tanks, and we can speak again.

IMO, dont handle T's period, its a good habit to practice as these are not you everyday creatures. They dont feel happy or sad when they get attentions or the lack of it, just as longs as they have food and water, coupled with a dark safe hide! I only handle a T if it decides to take a stroll on me without my consent haha!

I handled my versi the other day. let her walk up my forearm then placed my other hand in front of her when she gets on I take it away and she then walks up the other forearm. Eventually she got tired of the game and jumped about 30cm from my thumb to my elbow on my other arm. Nearly shit myself, but in hindsight it was cute as hell. She is now my favorite T
