Hey guys

I was thinking, in my Garden I've got some nice Big stones that would be perfect for my Arboreal Tarantulas and my Emperor Scorpion to climb on. What would I need to do to them to make them safe for my T's? I used a stone I found in my Garden for my Beardie, all I did was wash it and keep it dry. Is there anything special I need to do to the Stones to make them safe?

Just wash them stones properly.

I used all sorts of rocks, stones and driftwood in my fish tanks and just wash them well with clean water and boil them for a bit.
Never use detergents/solvents as a residue is almost always left behind and can be fatal.
Just my hopefully useful 5c worth.

What I mean is: I have some nice tall and narrow stones that I wanted to put upright against the glass or something. I live far away from a Petshop so can't get some things. I've got some branches that I got from a petstore that I had in my Arboreal cages but they get covered in mould and fungus. I actually want to use some big rocks/stones for my T. Ockerti as they are generally Semi-Arboreal and he spends most of his time on the ground.

Wash them properly, you can wash them with dish washing liquid, rinse well.

Make sure none of your tarantulas can dig under them, You don't want it to fall ontop of your spider.
So it would be better to have the rocks on the bottom of the tank and not resting on the substrate.

with regards to the scorpion pack the rocks in such a way that it can use it as a hide, just make sure the rocks can't fall on the scorpion when you move the enclosure or the scorpion digs out the substrate/support holding the rocks up.

I also use stones that I washed and brushed nicely. I also use them to prop up pieces of bark off the peat substrate. It helps keeping mould at bay.

Just a word of warning: it's safer to place the rocks and stones straight on the ground of the tank and not on a thick layer of substrate. If a T' decides to burrow underneath the stones, the burrow may collapse beneath the weight of them.
