Hi all I am new to the hobby and would like to ask your opinion on thermostats. I have quite a few fish tank thermostats left from my childhood fish tanks (not heaters just thermostats) would they work for my sling nursery? Since an aquarium temp is 21-28 C.

The nursery is an old aquarium and all my slings are in small containers that I placed inside the tank (to manage heat and humidity easier)

Just thermostats? What would they be controlling if not the heater element and how do you want to use them? I am not sure a sling nursery is even necessary, as long as the slings are in a climate comfortable to you and not colder than say 15deg celcius (I assume you are in the south african climate?), they should be fine and you will not need to control anything, unless of course you want to keep them warm, active and feeding well through winter.

I got myself some AKWA heating pads and dont want to wire them up without something controlling the things. I stay in Newcastle KZN and the winter can get chilly. And want to mimic their natural habitat as close as possible. The reason I want to use these thermostats is because they are in glass tubes which makes them spray proof so misting wont short them out and they have a small form factor

Christo, these thermostats will work perfectly. Set it up first before you place your slings in the tank, to make sure the temp is correct.
