Hi everyone

As we all know there are talks that Nature conservation will issue different permits for keeping and breeding certain local species of baboon spiders.

From what I hear this is finally coming to a conclusion. I have heard that for the first round collecting and breeding permits will be given to a selected few.

Now my question is who will be receiving these permits and if they are the right individuals to receive these permits?

In my opinion the individuals that receive these permits will have to :

- Be active in the tarantula hobby.
- Have the relevant experience in keeping and breeding Baboon spiders or tarantulas.
- Have knowledge on local species.
- Have the time.

I want to hear what are the thoughts of the tarantula community?

I for one think that what's the use in giving a permit to someone with no experience in breeding spiders, this will not help us breeding these spiders and getting them into the collections of the local or foreign tarantula keepers.

From what I understand this will only be for the first season, as soon as the slings grow up permits will be issued to the individual keepers to breed themselves

So why waste the first season on someone that is inexperienced.

This is just my view of it.

I fully agree with all you have said. I would not be a fool and request a breeding permit when I surely know that I am not at that stage of my hobby yet.

Would the permits to keep locals be issued at the same time or only later? That would be something I would be interested in for the time being.

I'm almost certain that the guys who have existing permits will get better permits, guys like Ceratogyrus and Hendrijs (I think he has if I remember correctly). After that, it will probably be guys who have been in the hobby for years, like Scarab, Taki, Tim, et cetera. Then maybe the guys who havent been in the hobby for as long but still have experience might get awarded permits.

Or they'll just give them out left, right and center (Joke)

As far as I know it is a Gauteng roll out, so people outside of Gauteng will not be able to apply for permits or get breeding permits.

As far as I know, when the first breedings are successful and when the slings go for sale they will be sold with permits. IF ANYNODY HAS BETTER INFO ON THIS PLEASE CHIME IN

I think it is the Natcon group who will decide on this with natcon, who will be getting the breeding permits.

You will be getting permits with the locals you buy from the breeders.
but Natcon will most proberly release more information closure to time what will be happening.
As far as I know and what happens now, one permit covers a whole lot of spiders you my keep, so you wont need to buy a new permit every time you buy a local.

But you have to let Natcon know what you have by updating your permit.
