Sorry to rain on your picnic, but I can't agree with this. The laws of this Universe are such that heat always flows from hot to cold, it doesn't make any difference what the material is. And, that automagically infers that the material will always equilibrate with its surroundings. The "material" doesn't make any difference. Cast iron, water, glass, plastic, helium in a balloon, it all works the same.
There is such a thing as "specific heat" that describes how much heat energy is required to achieve a particular temperature. While
plastics generally have higher specific heats than glass
, this merely means that they require more heat to achieve a specific temperature. But metabolic rates are dependent on temperature (how warm an organism is), not specific heat (how much heat was required to get it to that temperature). Specific heat is largely irrelevant in living systems.
Confusing? Sorry. I didn't invent the Universe, I just seek to understand it.
