Right all,

Been wondering this for a while now...???... (I hope this ain't a noooooby question).

So in the world of "spiders" there are obviously several types - tarantulas, button spiders, daddy long legs and so on....
So my question is as follows - what classifies a Tarantula as a Tarantula??? -(I hope this makes sense  )

Thanks for any responses!

To make sense of all the living things on earth we classify them according to Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.

Nice visual example of this here .

Tarantulas fall under the Family: Theraphosidae.

Basic unifying characteristics are a combination of:
Two pairs of book lungs.
Chompers that bite down instead of sideways.
A pair of claws on each foot.

Have a look at the links in The Magnificent Duke's sig to get your science on!

I'm not impossible. I'm being improbable.
