I'm not familiar with this species at all, but from what I remember the Mature males and Female differ in color with the mature male looking quite purple.

Is this not perhaps what the question is referring to?

I have pics to prove that the mature male and female get the purple highlights ,just can't upload it :whistle:

There is supposed to be 2 kinds of Phormictopus, something similar to the G. rosea and G. porteri .

But I highly doubt we have a 2 different kinds in SA, if anything they have been cross breed and mix up like that! but for the mean time just accept that you have Phormictopus Cancerides and name it like that and keep it like that.

Unless someone can prove with out a shadow of a doubt that we have both "species" in SA and they have not been mixed when they got imported into SA!

Most of the Phormictopus species in S.A. from what i have heard are not pure they have been cross bred for (eg)

Phormictopus atrichomatus bred with Phormictopus Cancerides and then sold as Phormictopus Cancerides.

This also goes for the Lasiodora species, they are notorious for being cross bred with others of its kind coz they look the same and people made mistakes.

PLEASE post us some pics mandie, i never said there's no colour variety in the sp. in most sp colour varies. my point is all of a sudden you can buy any colour P.cancerides that tickles you :silly: . blue,red,purple .... what eeever you choose. a guy said to me this weekend at the petshop. "i have 2 of each colour phase Haitian brown slings". but im sure he wont be disapointed at all in a few years. stir
