Justifying something because of the past is like saying racism is still fine cause it was fine in the past. There is no logic in it. Its not me you need to convince, its the law.

All I was trying to say is that price discussions about Ts we know are not openly available in the country will promote more imports. An importer can easily see both the interest and pricing for these Ts thats all.

Uhm, confusing. This is a tarantula forum right ? So lets keep the political comments out, even if it's an example. I'm sure something else could have been mustered up, again didn't seem applicable to the topic started. So if I understand this correct, no prices should be discussed at all ? Since many T's are still lucrative ? Ban all price discussions, lol kidding.

And that is really bad hey? I mean this will make rare, not readily available, sought after Tarantulas more and more available to the hobbyist in SA. We don't want that do we?
I don't need to convince anyone... Just don't see reason in pointing fingers for illegal imports while sitting on a collection of Exotic animals that no import license was ever awarded to???

I feel that, playing the card of your spiders were once illegal imported is just plain worthless and not worth bringing to the table at this point in the spiders hobby or ours.
They are here and we are keeping them regardless of how they got through the gates to start with.

The fact remains this, you will never stop the illegal importers at this present time, unless NATCON opens legal trade routes or rains the might of law down on the illegal imports, until that happens illegal spider will still be "breed" in SA for years to come. and RARE ones at that!

Even if you decide to be above the law an avoid buying these rare species there are 10 other people who will buy them without thinking twice.

The importers already know the money they can make, the risk is in the reward and at times it is a big reward for small amount of risk or a rap across the knuckles..
Importing of new rare exotic spiders is here to stay and have been imported at an alarming rate.
And they are selling them.

I often say to people that want new species of spiders, If you shout loud enough and posted it on enough forums and chat groups someone will import it for you.
But then again, they might have all been breed in SA, by a very awesome and great, wonderful person who we don't know of.
One of the next rare species to be "breed" in SA will be Eucratoscelus pachypus or they just going to end up in someones collection pretty soon.


To bring something to every ones attention,

Some importers / breeders / sellers have listened to the public and saw the market for what it is and are selling RARE, never before seen spiders at never before, descent prices. shocked


But regardless.

Ephebopus rufescens (Burgundy Skeleton) 2-3cm unsexed - R500 - Limited qty
Euathlus pulcherrimaklaasi "Blue" (Ecuadorian Blue Femur Beauty) 1cm - R480 - Very Rare
Kochiana Brunipes 1cm - R550 - Limited qty extremely RARE
Sphaerobothria hoffmanni (Central American Horned Birdeater) 1cm - R750 - Extremely RARE

Jake you do have very valid points. But promoting these activities paints our hobby in a bad light and is not something we should want. I am just concerned in light of the work thats taking place with the hopes of legalising locals (hope this is still on going?)

But if the everyone feels that promoting importation will not create more negativity towards our hobby then who am I to say otherwise?

In closing. I am just trying to look at this with the overall picture in mind and not just my own quest to have "them all".
