LATEST UPDATE :
  • Version 3 - Updated to show sub-family Poecilotheriinae now being a part of sub-family Selenocosmiinae
  • Removed attachments - versions can be saved from the Source document

Hi All,

I created a Taxonomy chart for myself, cos I'm a visual person and wanted to clarify the nomination of so called "true-spiders" vs tarantulas, and just to get a better picture of the hierarchy. So I've shared it in case anyone else would find it handy.
It might be of particular interest to anyone involved in education, or just to put up in the science lab at school.

Note :
Please note, as usual, this was created by me, a non-biologist and while based on a fair amount of research, there's always room for correction or improvement, so please feel free to provide constructive feedback.
At some point in the unforseeable future, I'd like to make an interactive web version which could have more data and detail.

Taxonomy of Spiders

Enjoy !

UPDATE HISTORY :
1. Initial Version
2. Version 2 - expanded with additional Class, Order, Family and Sub-Famiy (infra-family) information.
3. Version 3 - Updated to show sub-family Poecilotheriinae now being a part of sub-family Selenocosmiinae

Thanks Duke, that's exactly the info we need.

I couldn't find the exact details in the PDF link you provided (only 1 page), but is Poecilotheriinae completely deprecated or will it still be used in certain contexts ?
(want to know if I should annotate this fact, or just remove the sub family altogether)

Thanks !
